All the information I am showing on this blog are things I know for a while. However, writing it everyday here makes me feel a bit sick, a bit depressed.

Pollution is a real problem, and all the facts are concordant. But those are not remote facts, it has a real impact on health, on yours but also on mine. Escaping the issue is not a solution, but knowing the problem and not doing anything is not a solution neither.

I would like to get your feeling on the pollution, this pollution that affect us, our friends and our children.

i'm living in Nice, that means in an exceptionnal pure air compared to Beijing. I'm conscious of that. But i'm affraid for the future, when i see people here, supposed to be educated and aware of ecology, not even care about their own living environment, some shops leaving the light on the whole night, taking three showers a day during summer whenever it's not so hot, using their cars alone to do a few meters to buy their magazine. If you're not able to sensibilize people in France who are inclined to be, do you think it is possible in a country in which "environment" is a new concept, in which people think that "if we want to get Chine developped, we need to sacifice e generation"??? do you think it is possible????

I've just discovered this blog and find the information valuable. Last week, after several day in the smog I saw how they "minimized" the pollution indice (Good in Beijing = Very Bad in Paris) and run some statistics about SEPA data... it is amazing to see the results. In 2006 only 26 days not polluted in Beijing (i.e. pollution level 1) ! It is something we can feel everyday, making practice of sport more difficult and increasing frequency of colds.

But it is everybody responsibility to make it better, and awareness

campaign would be important to make people understand it is better to take subway instead of taxi or own vehicle, limit use of air conditioner...

Air pollution in Beijing is really an experience : I couldn't imagine how bad it could get before living here. It's the MAIN problem of this otherwise fascinating city. And it's not just about outdoor air pollution : walls, furniture, food, everything seems polluted! Help! Aaargh!
